TUC passes vote of confidence in Uba Sani, seeks reinstatement of 83 workers

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Kaduna State Council, has passed a vote of confidence in Gov. Uba Sani.

The council made its position known in a communique on Friday in Kaduna.

The communique was read by Abdullahi Dan Fulani, Chairman of the council.

It said the vote followed the governor’s commitment to maintaining a harmonious relationship with organised labour in the state.

The TUC commended the administration for promoting job security and ending what it described as unnecessary retrenchment and victimisation of workers.

It also praised the administration for improving and accelerating promotion processes for civil servants across the state.

According to the council, the governor approved the reinstatement of 37 wrongfully disengaged staff of the Local Government Service Commission on Aug. 15.

The TUC also commended the free CNG luxury bus scheme, saying it had reduced workers’ transportation costs and improved punctuality and productivity.

It, however, appealed to the governor to extend the free CNG transportation scheme to Kafanchan and Zaria.

The council further commended the resuscitation of the Civil Service Welfare Loan Scheme, which allows workers to access loans between N400,000 and N1.5 million.

It said the loans were repayable over four years at relatively low interest rates.

It commended the timely payment of salaries, creation of the Office of the Special Adviser on Labour Matters and reduction of institutional fees by 50 per cent.

The council appealed to the governor to approve consequential adjustments for core civil servants.

It also urged the government to review the proposed relocation of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Employers of Nigeria from Badiko Tipper Garage to Mahuta.

The TUC said the proposed Mahuta location lacked adequate security, access roads and other essential facilities required for the union’s operations.

It called on relevant authorities, particularly the Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), to engage the union toward a mutually acceptable solution.

The council further appealed for the reinstatement of 83 workers of the Kaduna State Internal Revenue Service and Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Authority.

It said the workers were wrongfully disengaged in 2019 and had secured favourable judgment at the National Industrial Court, Kaduna.

The TUC disclosed that 13 of the affected workers had died since their disengagement.

The council reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and constructive cooperation with the state government in promoting justice, fairness and inclusive governance.
