Some traditionalists in Okulese, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, have asked Mr. Olutayo Daramola, to produce his wife, Omobisola Tayo-Daramola, for the purpose of very important family traditional rites.
The traditionalists claimed that Omobisola has been on the run, and has therefore failed to submit herself for the traditional rites.
Speaking with journalists, Mr Daramola said he has been receiving series of phone calls ever since his wife refused to make herself available for the said rites, which borders largely on genital mutilation.
He said his wife fled their home in order to avoid being forcefully taken to her hometown.
He told journalists that representatives of the traditionalists came to his house few days ago in search of his wife.
He disclosed that they threatened to seriously deal with him when next they come and he refuses to reveal the whereabouts of his wife whose hand they claimed to have given to him in marriage.
Daramola said his wife had informed him of the family tradition, which subjects female children to genital mutilation, and is usually carried out when they are toddlers.
He stated further that a partial genital mutilation was carried out on his wife when she was a toddler as she was informed by her mother.
According to him, his wife had told him that this practice has been in existence for many decades, adding that since the law of Nigeria has respect for custom and traditions, there is nothing anyone could do to abolish the practice.
He also revealed that, according to the final face of the genital mutilation for children from his wife’s tribe, the procedure is done when the concerned female children clocks 41 years.old.
He observed that his wife was already 41 years old, which explains why the custodians of culture and tradition in her hometown have been sending notice in preparation for the big day.
Daramola noted that his wife is a devout Christian and would not want to submit herself for such spiritual process.
Besides, Daramola disclosed that his wife was presently pregnant and would not want anything harmful to happen to her and the unborn child.
Daramola called on the Nigerian Police and other security agencies to come to his rescue, alongside his wife and their two children.
