Tony Elumelu joins Seplat Energy board following strategic acquisition

Seplat Energy has officially announced the appointment of renowned investor and philanthropist, Mr. Tony O. Elumelu as a Non-Executive Director, effective January 22, 2026.

This strategic boardroom addition follows the resignation of Mr. Olivier Cleret De Langavant, who stepped down on the same date.

The restructuring of the Board is a direct consequence of the recent acquisition of Etablissements Maurel et Prom SA’s (M&P) 20.07 per cent shareholding in Seplat by a consortium comprising Heirs Holdings Limited and Heirs Energies Limited.

Mr. Langavant, who had served as a nominee of M&P since January 2020, was credited by the company for providing exceptional technical counsel during his six-year tenure.

Mr. Elumelu joins the Board with a formidable track record as the Founder and Chairman of Heirs Holdings, a diversified investment company with significant interests in the energy, power, and financial sectors.

He also serves as the Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA) Group and Transcorp Group. His appointment is expected to reinforce Seplat’s commitment to sustainable growth, leveraging his global influence and experience in Africa’s economic transformation.

Commenting on the transition, the Chairman of Seplat Energy, Mr. Udoma Udo Udoma, thanked Mr. Langavant for his strategic contributions and welcomed the new appointee. Udoma expressed confidence that Mr. Elumelu’s visionary leadership would be instrumental as the company continues to pursue value creation for all stakeholders.
