President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a decisive call for orderliness and restraint as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, and Rivers states prepare for elections this Saturday, February 21, 2026.

In a press statement issued on Friday, the President urged voters, security agencies, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the democratic process remains peaceful and transparent.

The upcoming elections include chairmanship and councilorship polls across the six area councils of the FCT, alongside crucial bye-elections in the Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies of Kano State, and the Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State.

Recognizing the significance of these local and legislative contests, President Tinubu emphasized that democracy is most effective when conducted in an environment characterized by calm, tolerance, and mutual respect.

Addressing the role of security forces, the President cautioned against any form of intimidation or high-handedness that could discourage citizens from participating.

He clarified that the presence of security personnel is intended solely to protect lives, property, and the integrity of the ballot. Concurrently, he appealed to all political parties and candidates to avoid inflammatory rhetoric or any actions that could undermine the credibility of the electoral outcome.

President Tinubu also placed a significant responsibility on INEC to strengthen public trust.

He urged the commission to facilitate a seamless voting experience, specifically highlighting the need for timely accreditation, smooth collation, and prompt transmission of results.

He noted that these actions should strictly adhere to the provisions of the newly enacted 2026 Electoral Act, which he recently signed into law to bolster Nigeria’s democratic framework.

Reiterating the Federal Government’s commitment to credible elections, the President commended the residents of the affected regions for their civic consciousness.

He expressed confidence that the Saturday polls would accurately reflect the will of the people, further solidifying Nigeria’s ongoing democratic journey.
