Third Mainland bridge remains safe and intact – FG dispels social media rumours
The Federal Government has debunked baseless social media claims suggesting that the Third Mainland Bridge is shaking and in imminent danger of collapse.
The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha clarified on Thursday that the purported reports, circulating across various platforms including WhatsApp and Facebook, are entirely false and unfounded.
Speaking to journalists during a detailed inspection of the bridge, Kesha expressed confidence in the structural soundness of the 11km-long bridge, which remains an essential part of Lagos’ transport infrastructure.
“The honourable minister has directed that I come out and tell Lagosians and Nigerians that there is nothing wrong with the bridge.
The rumour is the handiwork of mischief-makers—those who are idle and believe the political atmosphere is too quiet,” Kesha said.
Despite the alarming messages circulating online, which claimed parts of the bridge had opened up and were shaking, Kesha reassured the public that no damage had been observed during the thorough assessment.
“I took time with you, the journalists, to tour the entire length of the bridge.
We drove around it, came back, and observed that everything is in order,” she added.
The Federal Controller also emphasized that the integrity of the bridge should not be questioned.
“We want to use this opportunity to assure the motoring public, Lagosians, and all Nigerians that the bridge is safe, its integrity is intact.
After all, it is the same bridge that we, as ministry officials, as well as everyday Lagosians, traverse daily,” Kesha added.
The Nigerian government thereby called on the public to disregard the rumour and avoid further circulation of false information that could cause unnecessary panic.
