They thought they could end our political influence — Davido narrates Governor Adeleke’s entry into politics

Global music icon, Davido has narrated how current Osun state Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke ventured into politics.

Reflecting on the sudden 2017 passing of his eldest uncle, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, who was widely favored to reclaim the governorship, Davido noted that many believed the family’s political influence would end there.

However, despite perceptions that the family would sit back after the loss, they remained determined to maintain their legacy.

The singer shared that while the family initially sought a successor, his father deemed him too young for the responsibility.

This led to the unexpected entry of his youngest uncle, Ademola Adeleke, into the political arena.

Despite having no prior political background, Governor Ademola Adeleke has since won two elections, one as a Senator and another as Governor in 2022. Although, the Adeleke family as evidenced in Davido’s statement still believes Adeleke was rigged out of the 2018 gubernatorial elections.

“My eldest uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, the original politician in our family was meant to become the governor of Osun State again. Everyone already knew he had won the election, but then he p@ssed away. I don’t want to go too deep into it. They thought they had stopped him and that our family would just sit back.”

“My other uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the youngest in the family and wasn’t initially a politician. We had to choose someone from the family, and my dad said I was too young. Then Uncle Ademola came in from nowhere—boom—and he has never lost an election,” Davido is quoted as saying.
