TCL targets local assembly, job creation in Nigeria

General Manager of TCL West Africa, a consumer electronics company, says the company is considering local assembly in partnership with SIMS Nigeria to create jobs and deepen local participation in its value chain.

Ray made the statement in Lagos during the unveiling of the firm’s 2026 range of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered home appliances for the Nigerian market.

According to him, the initiative forms part of TCL’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Nigeria.

Ray said the country remained one of its most strategic markets in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region.

He said the 2026 product range reflects the company’s response to evolving consumer needs, integrating artificial intelligence, energy efficiency and smart connectivity across its product categories.

Ray added that TCL was also strengthening its offerings in home entertainment, cooling systems and household appliances as demand for smart and efficient technologies grows in the Nigerian market.

Also speaking, the Head of Marketing, TCL West Africa, Mr Dennis Laryea, said SIMS Nigeria would continue to provide nationwide distribution and after-sales support for the company’s products.

Laryea noted that while TCL currently imports its products into Nigeria, the possibility of establishing local assembly remained under consideration as part of its long-term expansion plans.

Earlier, Managing Director of SIMS Nigeria Ltd., Mr Ik Eyisi, said the partnership had enhanced local technical capacity through training programmes for engineers, assembly workers and after-sales personnel.

He said SIMS Nigeria was also collaborating with Nigerian universities on skills development and technology transfer to strengthen expertise in the electronics sector.

Eyisi added that customer feedback had influenced improvements in product design, particularly in energy efficiency and voltage stability to suit local conditions.

The unveiling brought together distributors, business partners and industry stakeholders to showcase TCL’s latest technologies and its plans for the Nigerian market.
