Sustained buying interest pushes NGX ASI higher despite weak Banking stocks

Trading activities on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) closed on a bullish note last week, as the All-Share Index (ASI) and market capitalization appreciated by 1.35 percent to close at 148,977.64 points and ₦94.561 trillion, respectively.
A total turnover of 2.422 billion shares worth ₦76.618 billion in 126,591 deals was traded by investors on the floor of the Exchange, in contrast to a total of 2.286 billion shares valued at ₦90.280 billion exchanged in 138,177 deals the previous week.
The Financial Services Industry, measured by volume, led the activity chart with 1.662 billion shares valued at ₦32.565 billion traded in 56,253 deals, contributing 68.65 percent and 42.50 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
The ICT Industry followed with 184.884 million shares worth ₦8.662 billion in 11,500 deals, while the Services Industry recorded 154.537 million shares worth ₦1.066 billion in 5,975 deals.
Trading in the top three equities is Consolidated Hallmark Holdings Plc, Fidelity Bank Plc, and Access Holdings Plc, accounting for 618.549 million shares worth ₦9.220 billion in 9,277 deals, contributing 25.54 percent and 12.03 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.
A total of 52 equities appreciated during the week, higher than the 51 recorded the previous week.
Forty-one equities depreciated, the same as 41 in the last week, while 53 equities remained unchanged, lower than 55 recorded in the previous week.
Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc led the top ten gainers with an 11.21 percent increase, rising from ₦3.21 to ₦3.57 per share. It was followed by Royal Exchange Plc, which gained 11.11 percent, and Eunisell Interlinked Plc, which appreciated by 10 percent.
Other top gainers for the week included SFS Real Estate Investment Trust by +9.88%, Omatek Ventures Plc by +9.49%, Transcorp Power Plc by +8.92%, Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc by +8.26%, Universal Insurance Plc by +8.11%, Vitafoam Nigeria Plc by +7.41%, and Prestige Assurance Plc by +6.51%.
On the losers' list, Tripple Gee and Company Plc topped with an 18.84 percent decline, closing at ₦4.91 from ₦6.05. Academy Press Plc followed with a 17.92 percent loss, while Regency Assurance Plc dropped by 13.94 percent.
Other major decliners included LivingTrust Mortgage Bank Plc, down -13.46%, Industrial & Medical Gases Nigeria Plc down -9.87%, Sunu Assurances Nigeria Plc down -9.01%, UACN Plc down -8.53%, Austin Laz & Company Plc down -7.94%, Ellah Lakes Plc down -7.20%, and Chams Holding Company Plc, down -6.98%.
In the Exchange-Traded Products (ETP) segment, a total of 202,526 units valued at ₦24.917 million were traded in 556 deals, compared to 147,745 units valued at ₦24.075 million traded in 372 deals the previous week.
In the bonds market, a total of 448,601 units valued at ₦381.846 million were traded in 46 deals, compared to 984,209 units valued at ₦883.357 million exchanged last week in 28 deals.
During the week, Nigerian Exchange Limited announced the regulatory delisting of Smart Products Nigeria Plc from its platform for failing to meet the criteria for migration to the Growth Board.
In the same notice, Juli Plc successfully migrated to the Growth Board of the Exchange, effective Monday, October 13, 2025.
