The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has notified the public of a scheduled annual preventive maintenance exercise on a critical power asset within the Suleja 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
The technical operation, slated for Saturday, May 9, 2026, is expected to result in a temporary suspension of electricity supply to several communities in and around Niger State.
According to a statement released by TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the maintenance work focuses on a 60MVA 132/33kV power transformer.
The exercise is scheduled to run for six hours, commencing at 10:00 a.m. and concluding by 4:00 p.m.
The planned technical intervention means that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take bulk power from the Suleja substation during the maintenance window.
This will lead to a temporary blackout for residents and businesses across a wide geographical area.
Affected locations include, Suleja, Jere, Field-Base, Gooda Tech Plus and surrounding environs.
TCN officials emphasized that these routine checks are essential for the long-term health of the grid. Annual preventive maintenance allows engineers to identify and rectify potential faults before they lead to catastrophic equipment failure, thereby ensuring the transformer continues to operate at optimal performance levels.
The transmission company has assured the public that power supply will be restored immediately upon the completion of the technical audit.
While expressing regret over the inevitable disruption, TCN reiterated its commitment to maintaining a robust and stable national grid.
