States no longer struggle with salary payments — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said Nigeria’s economy is showing signs of recovery, adding that state governments are now less dependent on federal intervention to pay workers’ salaries.

He made the remark on Friday while receiving members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, during a Sallah homage at his Lagos residence.

Tinubu stated that ongoing economic reforms were gradually stabilizing the country’s finances and improving the ability of states to meet their obligations without frequent support from the federal government.

He noted that the adjustments being implemented were beginning to yield results across different levels of governance.

Reflecting on his journey to the presidency, Tinubu described the process as difficult, saying it was marked by political and legal challenges that tested his resolve.

“At the time, I faced the challenge of trying to become the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said, recalling the struggles that accompanied his emergence.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to economic recovery, stressing that the focus remains on strengthening institutions, improving fiscal discipline, and ensuring long-term stability for sustainable growth and better welfare for Nigerians.
