Sonayon-James pledges to consolidate progressive governance model

The newly nominated deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election, Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, has expressed profound gratitude for her selection, promising to work closely with the party gubernatorial candidate to sustain the state’s developmental trajectory.

In an official statement acknowledging her nomination, Sonayon-James described her selection as a milestone that reflects the boundless opportunities available in Lagos, particularly for women, youth, and girls.

She added that her political journey serves as a powerful reminder that there is no limit to what citizens can achieve within the state’s progressive political ecosystem.

Sonayon-James extended her deepest appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his democratic leadership and economic policies which she noted have placed Nigeria on a firmer financial footing.

She also expressed gratitude to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her consistent encouragement and mentorship.

She paid special tribute to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, while expressing immense pride in running alongside the APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat.

Further gratitude was directed toward the state party structure led by Chairman Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, as well as the influential Governance Advisory Council (GAC) under the leadership of Prince Tajudeen Olusi, whose collective political wisdom she credited as the anchor of the party’s stability in Lagos.

Reflecting on her political roots, sheoffered special thanks to the people of Badagry and Badagry West, whom she had previously served.

Sonayon-James noted that their enduring encouragement has remained a foundational source of inspiration and strength throughout her public service career.

She also acknowledged the vital role played by traditional rulers, community stakeholders, grassroots mobilizers, and youth organizations in shaping the vibrant political climate of the state.

Looking ahead to the 2027 polls, Sonayon-James affirmed her dedication to a collaborative campaign alongside Dr. Hamzat.

She declared that their joint mandate would focus heavily on consolidating the established model of progressive governance that has historically distinguished Lagos as Nigeria’s center of excellence and a benchmark for other subnational governments.
