Soludo’s resilience in health devt. bagged him Commonwealth award- Speaker

The Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has stated that the intentional and concerted efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo in the health sector were the primary drivers behind his recent international recognition.

The Speaker made the remarks following the presentation of the “Nurses-Friendly Governor Award” to Soludo by the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation at its 2026 Conference held in Abuja.

In a statement released on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Emma Madu, Udeze lauded the Governor’s “giant strides” in healthcare delivery.

He noted that the administration’s focus on providing physical infrastructure and human services had set a new benchmark for public health in the state.

Udeze maintained that the governor’s scorecards in health sector were verifiable  health milestones that  laid credence to the prestigious award by the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation.

The speaker noted that Soludo’s visible efforts in health development in the state, of which included massive employment of no fewer than 1,000 health personnel and free antenatal care and delivery services in the state.

” The establishment of 30 cervical cancer screening centers in the state for early detection and prevention of cancer, and if detected, to gain possible treatment.

“The establishment of a medical oxygen production plant and endoscopy unit in general hospitals as well as local and international training and retraining of medical personnel in the state.”

He also noted that Soludo’s administration had completed renovation and modernisation of three general hospitals at Umueri, Ekwulobia and Enugwu-Ukwu, covering the three Senatorial Zones of the state.

“The additional building of five new general hospitals at Okpoko, Fegge, Aguleri-Otu, Anaku and Oromaetiti, all in Anambra North Senatorial District, to enhance health care in rural areas,” he stated.

The speaker commended the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation for recognising the achievements of Gov. Soludo in the health sector .

He noted that by bestowing the famous Nurses-Friendly Governor award on him, it would really motivate his good governance and healthcare excellence in Anambra.
