Seven individuals suspected of involvement in fraudulent activities have been arrested in Kankare and Zurkuda villages, located in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State. The arrests followed a coordinated security operation based on credible intelligence.

The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the development in an official statement issued by its spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Lawan Shiisu, on Saturday, 14 June 2025.

According to the statement, the operation took place on Friday, 13 June 2025, at approximately 11:00am. Personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups participated in the joint raid.

“In a joint security operation, seven suspected fraudsters were apprehended in Kankare and Zurkuda villages of Birnin Kudu Local Government Area,” Superintendent Shiisu announced.

He disclosed that the suspects are allegedly part of a broader network engaged in financial scams and the distribution of counterfeit currency in the region.

Items seized during the operation include 461 fake United States Dollar notes, four Point-of-Sale (POS) machines, 13 smartphones, 29 keypad phones, two vehicle number plates, a box, and a collection of suspected fraudulent documents.

All seven individuals are currently being held in police custody. They are undergoing initial questioning and profiling as authorities work to determine the scale of their operations and any potential links to wider criminal syndicates.

The Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest security post without delay.

Reaffirming its dedication to tackling organised crime, the Command pledged to continue its efforts to safeguard communities and uphold public security across Jigawa State.
