The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed Mrs. Ayo Omidiran as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), alongside 37 commissioners representing the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The confirmation followed the presentation and adoption of a screening report by Senator Allwell Onyesoh, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs.
Onyesoh confirmed that all nominees submitted the required documentation and underwent thorough vetting, with no criminal records or petitions reported against them.
“All nominees appeared before the committee on November 13 and presented their CCB clearances, police reports, DSS vetting documents, and curriculum vitae,” Onyesoh told lawmakers.
The Senate, under the motion moved by Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, dissolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider each nominee. Deputy Minority Leader, Senator Olalere Oyewumi, praised the nominees’ professional backgrounds and international experience, expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for nominating qualified individuals.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, then put the nominations to a voice vote, with all senators unanimously confirming Omidiran and the 37 commissioners.
