A coordinated security operation in Oyo State has led to the successful rescue of two kidnapped victims and the apprehension of three suspects following an armed attack at the Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria (CRIN) in Idi-Ayunre.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:23 p.m. on Wednesday when members of the Ogun State Chapter of the Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria were ambushed by unidentified gunmen.

The farmers had reportedly arrived at the CRIN nursery site to submit their annual collections of cocoa seedlings in preparation for the 2026 planting season when the assailants struck.

In a statement released by the Oyo State Police Command, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed that a distress call triggered an immediate and massive mobilization of personnel.

The response featured a rare level of synergy between the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local vigilante groups, and the Amotekun Corps.

The combined forces engaged the kidnappers in a tactical pursuit through the forest, successfully recovering two male victims.

Three suspects were intercepted during the heat of the operation and are currently in police custody undergoing interrogation.

While two victims have been reunited with their families, security forces have not withdrawn from the area.

DSP Olayinka noted that aggressive bush combing operations are ongoing to locate at least one remaining victim and track down the fleeing remnants of the gang.

The Command has urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, providing toll-free emergency lines (615) and specific control room numbers to facilitate the flow of credible information.
