Saudi agriculture firm applauds Jigawa’s tech-driven farming, pledges strategic partnership

Saudi Arabian agribusiness, Al-Yaseen Agricultural Company, has commended Jigawa State for its strides in technology-driven agriculture and expressed readiness to support the state's mechanisation and irrigation initiatives.

The commendation was made during a courtesy visit to Governor Umar Namadi in Dutse, as disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Hamisu Gumel, on Wednesday.

Leader of the delegation, Dr. Shuaibu Abubakar, lauded Jigawa’s proactive approach to agricultural development, stating that the company observed a level of government support and farmer engagement unmatched elsewhere in Nigeria.

“We have witnessed unprecedented efforts by the Jigawa government in promoting technology-driven agriculture. During our field visits, we directly engaged with farmers who expressed deep appreciation for the support they have received,” Abubakar said.

He assured that Al-Yaseen Agricultural Company is committed to partnering with the state to strengthen its agricultural transformation agenda.

In response, Governor Namadi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revolutionising agriculture, describing it as the backbone of Jigawa's economy—employing nearly 90 percent of the population and contributing 46 percent to the state’s GDP.

“We have the land and all necessary resources for large-scale agriculture. With your expertise, particularly in irrigation, we can achieve significant progress,” the Governor stated.

He further highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the expansion of irrigation systems, distribution of improved seeds, agronomic training, and the deployment of over 1,700 extension workers. Namadi also revealed that the government is currently rehabilitating 10 strategic dams across the state to unlock thousands of hectares of arable land for cultivation.
