Sanwo-Olu proposes legacy bill to preserve reforms

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has disclosed plans to introduce a Legacy and Transition Bill aimed at preserving key policies and reforms of his administration beyond the end of his tenure.

Sanwo-Olu made this known on Wednesday at the 19th Executive and Legislative Parley, where he outlined priorities for the final phase of his administration.

He said the proposed bill, to be transmitted to the Lagos State House of Assembly, is designed to institutionalise governance frameworks and ensure continuity, enabling the next administration to inherit a functional system rather than just completed projects.

“As we approach the final stretch, our focus is on ensuring that the progress we have made becomes a permanent part of how Lagos works,” the governor said.

He assured residents that there would be no abandoned projects, stressing that all ongoing strategic infrastructure, particularly in the transport sector, would be completed and commissioned before the end of his tenure.

“We are finishing what we started,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu also revealed that a comprehensive, data-driven report detailing the administration’s achievements and outstanding challenges would be released by the third quarter of the year.

In a bid to deepen inclusive governance, the governor announced plans to convene a Citizens Assembly that will give women, youths, and persons living with disabilities a more structured role in governance.

He urged members of his cabinet to remain focused, noting that transitions often lead to a decline in momentum.

“We must resist that temptation and keep our foot on the pedal until the very last day,” he said.

The governor commended the partnership with the Lagos State House of Assembly, noting that the collaboration has been instrumental in driving the THEMES+ development agenda.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining progress and strengthening governance systems in Lagos State.
