Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged his administration’s continued support to the Nigerian Armed Forces, aimed at boosting their morale in the ongoing efforts to safeguard the nation’s sovereignty.

The Governor gave this assurance on Thursday during the Parade and Laying of Wreaths Ceremony to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, held at the Remembrance Arcade, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos.

Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who inspected the guard of honour and performed the traditional wreath-laying rites, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the sacrifices of the fallen heroes would never be forgotten by the government or the people of Nigeria.

He noted that since military personnel risk their lives daily to ensure the safety of lives and property, it is imperative for both Federal and State governments to reciprocate these gestures by providing the necessary support structure.

“Today, we are observing the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day to honour and encourage our military officials, as well as to remember our fallen heroes and pray for them. This is to demonstrate that the nation stands behind them and that we will do everything necessary to always support them,” the Governor stated.

Sanwo-Olu specifically reiterated the state’s commitment to providing assistance to the widows and dependents of the fallen heroes.

He noted that while many support initiatives occur behind the scenes, his administration remains fully dedicated to ensuring that military personnel feel valued and encouraged.

In his remarks, the Deputy Controller General of the Nigerian Legion Council, DCG Wolimoh Hakeem Olawale, commended the Lagos State Government for its consistent support to the Armed Forces and particularly to the widows of the fallen heroes.

He reaffirmed the Legion’s unwavering commitment to its statutory mandate of catering to the welfare of veterans and the families left behind by those who paid the supreme price.
