Sanwo-Olu inaugurates road projects in two LCDAs, urges landlords against rent hike

...Emphasises responsibility to protect public infrastructure

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday officially inaugurated key road rehabilitation projects across two Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

He urged landlords to refrain from increasing rents due to the infrastructural developments.

Sanwo-Olu emphasised that the upgraded roads Agidi Road and Church Street in Agboyi/Ketu LCDA, and Demurin Road in Kosofe LGA were not intended to burden tenants with higher rents but were part of the state’s effort to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion.

“Please don’t increase your house rents because Sanwo-Olu has just done connectivity. We are not doing it so you can put a burden on your tenants. The value of your houses might have gone up with the dual carriageway, but please take it that this is our responsibility to you,” the Governor urged.

He also called on Lagos residents to protect public infrastructure from vandalism and warned against the indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads, which can undermine the state’s development efforts.

The rehabilitated roads are expected to significantly enhance vehicular movement, reduce perennial flooding, and facilitate the smooth transportation of goods and people.

“This infrastructure is yours to protect. Our duty is to make life easier for you by reducing travel time, which will automatically translate into growth economically and socially,” Sanwo-Olu added.

The Governor noted that the road projects fulfilled another campaign promise and aligned with his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda to provide critical infrastructure that supports economic activities.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, explained that the newly rehabilitated roads were designed to reduce travel time, support local economic growth, and alleviate traffic pressures in Lagos.

Chairman of Agboyi/Ketu LCDA,Dele Osinowo commended the Sanwo-Olu administration for its developmental strides and similarly urged landlords to avoid arbitrary rent hikes in the area.
