Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Nigerian chess maestro and Chess in Slums founder Tunde Onakoya for setting a new Guinness World Record in a 64-hour chess marathon.

In a post shared via his official handle on X in Monday, Sanwo-Olu praised Onakoya’s resilience and passion, calling it “a remarkable milestone and a proud moment for all of us.”

He added: “Tunde’s perseverance and commitment to the game truly inspire everyone around him, and this accomplishment highlights his incredible talent.”

The Governor also acknowledged Ferdinand, a young chess enthusiast he met recently, commending his strategic thinking and passion for the sport. “His passion for chess left a lasting impression on me,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.

He further celebrated the achievements of the Chess in Slums children and Jamiu Boluwatife, who recently won the ICN Chess Championship, along with other Nigerian participants at the 2025 United Nations Games Chess Tournament in New York.

“They all represent the best of our community, and I am confident they will continue to achieve great things in the future, once again, congratulations Tunde and all our champions. Your achievements are a source of pride for Lagos and a reminder that with determination and talent, we can reach all corners of the world,”he added.
