Rivers Govt pledges prompt implementation of Supreme Court ruling

The Rivers State Government has assured the public that it will promptly implement the Supreme Court’s judgement in the interest of the state as soon as the certified true copy of the ruling is received.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Tammy Danagogo, made this known in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly and released to journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

Danagogo confirmed that the state government had been in constant communication with its legal team, who were still awaiting the certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgement before proceeding with its implementation.

Reacting to a letter circulating on social media, purportedly dated March 3 and titled “Resolution of the Rivers House of Assembly”, Danagogo clarified that his office had not received the document.

“Neither my office nor the Governor’s Office, the Deputy Governor’s Office, or even the Office of the Accountant-General of the State has received the said letter,” he stated.

Danagogo also recalled that Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in his statewide broadcast on Sunday, had reaffirmed his commitment to implementing the Supreme Court’s decision, irrespective of his personal stance on the matter.

The Rivers State Government reiterated its dedication to upholding the rule of law, ensuring that all legal processes are duly followed in executing the Supreme Court’s ruling.
