The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has called on the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, to comply with an interim High Court injunction restraining him from acting on impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Professor Ngozi Odu.

The injunction, issued last Friday by a Rivers State High Court sitting in Oyigbo, bars the Chief Judge from receiving, forwarding, considering, or acting on any request, resolution, articles of impeachment, or related communication from the State House of Assembly.

In a statement over the weekend, APC spokesman Darlington Nwauju described the impeachment process as a “legislative coup d’etat,” asserting that the allegations, however carefully crafted, remain subjective in the court of public opinion.

“We call on the Honourable Chief Judge of Rivers State to respect yesterday’s interim injunction in Suit No OYHC/7/CS/2026 that restrained him from receiving or acting on the resolutions of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” Nwauju said.

He criticised members of the House of Assembly, including APC lawmakers, for what he termed “needless legislative overreach” that threatens the unity and survival of the party in the state.

Nwauju noted that while the Legislature is empowered under Sections 129 and 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) to conduct impeachment, the determination of “gross misconduct” remains subjective, making the proceedings politically sensitive.

He urged the national leadership of the APC to activate internal mechanisms under the party’s constitution to protect the party from an “embarrassing situation” in Rivers State.
