Real Madrid monitoring Haaland situation as uncertainty grows at Manchester City

Real Madrid are reportedly keeping close watch on Erling Haaland’s situation at Manchester City as uncertainty surrounding Pep Guardiola’s impending departure continues to fuel transfer speculation across Europe.

The Spanish giants are understood to be assessing whether changes at the Etihad could create an opportunity to pursue the Norwegian striker, who remains one of the most coveted forwards in world football.

Interest from Real Madrid has intensified following confirmation that Guardiola will leave Manchester City at the end of the 2025-26 season, bringing an end to his trophy-laden decade in England.

Reports in Britain and Spain claim Madrid believe the managerial transition could unsettle several senior City players, with Haaland viewed as a long-term marquee target at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Haaland, 25, recently signed a contract extension that reportedly ties him to City until 2034, a development expected to make any potential transfer enormously complicated and financially demanding.

Despite the length of that deal, speculation surrounding the striker’s future has refused to disappear. Earlier this year, reports in Spain suggested Guardiola had grown frustrated by persistent rumours linking the Norway international with Real Madrid.

The former Borussia Dortmund forward has continued to deliver outstanding numbers this season, scoring heavily in both domestic and European competitions while helping City secure a domestic cup double.

Madrid’s interest comes during a period of significant transition at the club following a disappointing campaign by their standards. The Spanish side are believed to be evaluating several high-profile options as they seek to rebuild a squad capable of reclaiming dominance in both La Liga and the Champions League.

Any move for Haaland would almost certainly rank among the most expensive transfers in football history, with Manchester City expected to resist any attempt to prise away one of the cornerstones of their project.

For now, neither club has publicly commented on the reports, while Haaland remains focused on Norway’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and City’s closing fixtures of the season.
