REA welcomes ICPC for review to strengthen transparency

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has welcomed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to conduct a comprehensive system study and review of its operations as part of efforts to deepen accountability and improve transparency.

Recall that the REA was recently ranked as leader in the power sector in the 2025 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Ranking and Performance Outlook conducted by the ICPC.

During the ICPC’s visit to the REA headquarters which was initiated by the agency recently, the REA Managing Director, Abba Aliyu emphasized that as the REA continues to manage increasingly significant programs, partnerships, and investments, it carries a heightened responsibility to ensure its internal frameworks are fully accountable, transparent, and fit for purpose.

He called for increased collaboration between the commission and the agency’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

“Transparency is strongest when an organization is willing to open its systems to external scrutiny, identify operational gaps, and actively implement corrective measures,” the MD said.

He pledged that the collaboration with the ICPC and ACTU will be a continuous framework, ensuring ongoing evaluation and strengthening of the systems driving rural electrification across the country.
