Ramadan: Governor Adeleke urges Politicians to eschew bitterness, as AMBO calls for unity

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has issued a strong appeal to political actors across the state to abandon politics of bitterness as the 2026 Ramadan fast commences.
In a message delivered through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the Governor characterized the holy month as a sacred period for spiritual renewal and faith, emphasizing that leadership should serve the interests of the people rather than being used as a tool for political retribution.
The Governor's message particularly reflected on the ongoing local government crisis in Osun State, where he commended residents for their resilience.
He noted that despite what he described as the unlawful seizure of over ₦130 billion in local government allocations by federal authorities over the past year, his administration has remained steadfast in its obligations, including the consistent payment of salaries and the continuation of critical infrastructure projects.
Governor Adeleke admonished the faithful to observe the month according to the dictates of Allah, reminding them that Ramadan is an opportunity to strengthen bonds through acts of charity such as feeding the poor.
He stressed that fostering harmony in the community can be achieved by coming together during the breaking of the fast, effectively bridging political and social divides.
Governor Adeleke reassured the populace that his commitment to good governance remains unshaken by political brinksmanship and urged voters to renew their faith in his administration as the August 2026 gubernatorial election approaches.
In the same vein, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), extended his felicitations to both the Muslim and Christian communities.
With this year’s Ramadan beginning on the same day as the Christian Lenten season, Oyebamiji highlighted the unique spiritual significance of the moment, calling it a period for genuine introspection and sober reflection on the past, present, and future deeds of all believers.
Oyebamiji urged the Muslim Ummah and Christians alike to stick to the divine teachings of their respective faiths by extending hands of fellowship and abstaining from forbidden acts.
He emphasized that the season should go beyond mere fasting and prayer, serving instead as a measurement of selflessness, discipline, and tolerance.
According to the APC candidate, the virtues exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad and Jesus Christ should serve as a blueprint for promoting peace, love, and stability across the state.
Oyebamiji concluded his message with prayers for wisdom and intellect for all citizens to serve God and humanity better, while the Governor reaffirmed his pledge to never depart from his commitment to the people.
As Osun State enters a defining election year, the call for peace remains the dominant narrative.
