Proprietor tasks teachers with adoption of ICT to boost productivity

The Proprietor of Young Leaders Nursery and Primary School, Ilorin, Mr Biola Thomas, has urged teachers to upgrade themselves and embrace Information and Communication Technology (ICT) skills to enhance effective teaching.
He said that many teachers relied solely on the knowledge acquired during their Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programme without making efforts to upgrade themselves through research and digital learning.
According to him, teachers must embrace self-development instead of waiting for government training programmes.
“The world has become a global village; People in different professions have embraced digital approaches in their careers and teachers should not be left behind.
“Teachers must upgrade themselves and learn how to effectively use ICT tools to impact knowledge on students.
“When teachers are equipped with ICT skills, they will be able to prepare students to compete favourably at the international level.
“It is time for teachers to brace up, learn different ICT skills and stop depending entirely on government for capacity development,” he said.
Thomas, who described teachers as reflections of society, urged them to be mentally prepared to produce future leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to national development.
Meanwhile, he enjoined government to effectively invest in teachers to improve their welfare for better productivity and output.
