…as Fubara acknowledges Wike as leader
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s latest intervention in the Rivers State political crisis will be the final mediation by the Presidency.
Wike made these remarks on Tuesday following a fresh peace meeting brokered by the President between himself and Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Presidential Villa.
Addressing journalists during an infrastructure inspection, the former governor praised the President for acting as a father figure but stressed that such high-level interventions should not be recurring.
“I remember this is the second time Mr. President has intervened. By the grace of God, this will be the last time,” Wike stated.
The Minister confirmed he has instructed the Rivers State House of Assembly to obey the President’s directives, expressing confidence that all parties will now respect the latest peace accord.
The Sunday night meeting was a renewed effort to douse long-standing tensions between the executive and the legislature that have hampered governance in the state for months.
In a notable shift from the previously combative atmosphere, the resolution appears to have restored a semblance of the traditional political hierarchy in the state.
Sources close to the Sunday night meeting at the Presidential Villa indicate that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally acknowledged Nyesom Wike as the leader of the political family in Rivers State.
This acknowledgment is seen as a pivotal concession aimed at thawing the frozen relationship between the Governor’s office and the State House of Assembly, which has been loyal to the FCT Minister.
