President Bola Tinubu has extended warm felicitations to prominent economist, banker, and philanthropist Tony Onyemaechi Elumelu on the occasion of his birthday, celebrated on March 22.
The President praised the business leader’s profound impact on the continent’s economic landscape, describing him as a standout advocate for Nigerian and broader African enterprise.
Recognizing his expansive leadership portfolio, President Tinubu commended Elumelu’s concurrent roles as the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, the United Bank for Africa (UBA), and Transcorp, as well as his visionary work as the founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation.
The President highlighted the resilience and standard of excellence that govern Elumelu’s entire enterprise, specifically applauding his staunch commitment to the economic philosophy of Africapitalism, a framework that champions the private sector’s primary role in driving sustainable, continental development.
President Tinubu specifically lauded the Tony Elumelu Foundation’s flagship entrepreneurship programme for its massive economic ripple effect.
The initiative has achieved remarkable scale, successfully training 2.5 million young Africans across 54 countries and actively empowering over 24,000 budding entrepreneurs with non-refundable seed capital of $5,000 each.
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu joined Elumelu’s family, friends, and business associates in celebrating the milestone.
The President offered his sincere wishes for the business icon’s continued good health, strength, and enduring success in all his future pursuits.
