President Bassirou Diomaye Faye visits ECOWAS Parliament to strengthen regional dialogue

The ECOWAS Parliament welcomed the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government and President of the Republic of Senegal, His Excellency Bassirou Diomaye Faye, during a high-level visit to the community’s headquarters in Abuja.

President Faye was received by the Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Rt. Hon. Mémounatou Ibrahima, alongside the First Deputy Speaker, who delivered official remarks expressing profound gratitude for the presidential visit.

Leadership at the parliament emphasized that the Senegalese leader’s presence underscores a deep commitment to institutional dialogue and highlights the crucial function of regional lawmakers in bridging the gap between ECOWAS and its citizens.

Parliamentary officials noted that the visit significantly reinforces the necessity of regular engagement between the Authority of Heads of State and Government and the regional legislature. Such collaboration is viewed as vital for streamlining community actions, amplifying the voices and aspirations of West African peoples, and fostering broader public ownership of ongoing regional integration initiatives.

The engagement also serves as an endorsement of the parliament’s ongoing efforts to pragmatically enhance its legislative mandate and establish stronger connections with the grassroots populations across member states.

The ECOWAS Parliament concluded by offering its best wishes to President Faye as he continues to guide the regional bloc in his capacity as Chairman.
