Power generation may dip as Seplat begins Gas plant maintenance

Nigerians may experience a modest reduction in electricity supply following the announcement of scheduled maintenance on Seplat Energy’s gas production facilities.

The maintenance, which is part of standard industry safety and asset integrity protocols, is slated to run from February 12 to February 15, 2026.

NNPC Ltd. spokesperson, Mr. Andy Odeh, explained that the four-day exercise is essential to ensure the long-term reliability and efficiency of the critical infrastructure.

During this window, there will be a temporary reduction in the gas volume supplied to the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline network. Consequently, power generation companies (GenCos) that rely on Seplat’s gas may see a dip in their output.

To minimize the impact on the national grid, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) is reportedly engaging alternative suppliers to fill the anticipated gaps.

Both Seplat and NNPC Ltd. have assured the public that the maintenance will be completed as quickly as possible, with full supply expected to resume immediately after February 15 to restore normal electricity generation levels.
