Police foil robbery in Anambra, arrest three, recover Tricycle

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three suspects for armed robbery in Awarasi Village, Uga, Aguata Local Government Area, and recovered a stolen tricycle from them.

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects were apprehended on Monday following a distress call about an attack on a commercial tricycle operator at Isuaniocha Bridge, Awka North LGA.

He said the hoodlums had dispossessed the victim of his yellow tricycle with registration number NZM 92 YH, before fleeing.

“Police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad swiftly mobilised to the scene, rescued the victim, and rushed him to the hospital, where he is responding to treatment,” Ikenga stated.

He added that the suspects were traced to Awarasi Village through intelligence-led operations, where the stolen tricycle was also recovered.

The suspects, identified as Kosisochukwu Nweke (26), Emmanuel Eze (24), and Osondu Ifeanyi (20), attempted to escape when they sighted police operatives but were given a hot chase and arrested.

Ikenga said investigations are ongoing to establish other criminal activities linked to the gang, adding that the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
