Police declare man wanted over killing of two fulani herdsmen in Ebonyi

The Nigeria Police Force has declared Mr Stephen Okorie, a 43-year-old man from Okposi Okwu, Ohaozara Local Government Area, wanted in connection with the killing of two Fulani herdsmen during a violent clash in Nkalagu community, Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, on February 2, 2021.

Following the incident, armed Fulani herdsmen reportedly launched a reprisal attack on the community on March 30, 2021, destroying homes, farmlands, and displacing several residents.

Mr Okorie was allegedly identified as one of the main suspects and members of indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) linked to the initial attack that resulted in the deaths.

However, when police operatives visited his residence, he was nowhere to be found.

His business, vehicles were vandalised in the process by the Fulani herdsmen.

Security sources confirmed that his current whereabouts remain unknown, and efforts to locate him have so far been unsuccessful.

The police have now placed a bounty on him, calling on members of the public with credible information to assist in tracking him down.

Several other suspects connected to the February 2 killings are also on the run, as investigations continue into the violence and the subsequent destruction caused by the reprisal attack.
