Police declare Ibadan Man wanted over alleged homosexual acts

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), through the Iyaganku Police Station, has officially declared Mr. Opeyemi Bakare wanted following his alleged evasion of arrest regarding allegations of homosexual acts.

Bakare, a male resident formerly of number 2 Binukonu Street, Challenge, Ibadan, has been the subject of an intense manhunt involving law enforcement, community vigilantes, and local elders.

The investigation stems from an incident on June 26, 2018, at Felele Layout in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene following reports of the illicit activity, resulting in the apprehension of an accomplice identified as Abiola.

However, Bakare managed to escape the premises before officers could secure the perimeter and has remained at large in the years since.

The search for the suspect saw a significant development on July 9, 2022, when a tip-off led to an attempted arrest. The operation was complicated by a case of mistaken identity, as officers initially detained Bakare’s brother due to their striking physical resemblance.

This error was later clarified by family members, who confirmed that the suspect had once again eluded capture.

Despite rumors circulating among community youths that the investigation had been abandoned, police authorities have firmly reasserted that the case remains active.

They maintain that all lawful measures will continue to be pursued until Bakare is brought into custody. Community leaders and family members have reportedly joined the authorities in the call for his location.

The Iyaganku Police Station advises anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Opeyemi Bakare to report immediately to the nearest police station.

Authorities emphasize that public cooperation is essential in concluding this investigation.
