Police arrest two for allegedly raping woman in Lagos

The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested two men  Solomon Barry, 37, and Bright Omega, 36 – for allegedly raping a 21-year-old woman in Ikeja, Lagos.

The command’s Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest in the statement he issued on Thursday in Lagos.

He said that the officials of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) arrested the duo early Saturday morning inside a Nissan Almera 2017 model in Alausa Business District, Ikeja.

“The suspects were caught in the act raping the woman around 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022.

“The RRS officers, who were on patrol stopped to check a parked black Nissan Almera at M.K.O Abiola Gardens Road, Alausa, when they noticed the alleged rape ongoing.

“On a closer look, the officers observed that the lady was unconscious and not responding to police instructions.

“The officers promptly rounded up the suspects and urgently drove the lady to RRS Headquarters for medical attention where she regained consciousness,” he said.

Hundeyin said that investigation revealed that the lady, who is a dancer, met the suspects at a club around Ikeja Shopping Mall, Alausa, and then consented to driving around town and lodging in a hotel.

He said that the Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, acting on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, has transferred the case to the Police Gender Unit, which is specialised in handling such cases.

Man kills 70-year-old mother in Akwa Ibom

Police in Akwa-Ibom State have arrested one Inyangake James Peter for killing his 70-year-old mother, Mma-Offiong James Peter, in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state.

This is contained in a statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, on Monday.

According to the statement, the suspect, who was arrested by the police on April 4, 2024, at about 9:00 am, said he acted based on a voice which kept prompting him to kill her.

“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Inyangake James Peter, 40 years old for gruesomely murdering his biological mother, one Mma-Offiong James Peter, about 70 years old on 4/4/2024 at about 9:00 am at Ikpe Annang Village in Etim Ekpo LGA.

“The suspect, who confessed to the crime has been transferred to the state CID for discrete investigation.

“The suspect on interrogation alleged that he had a voice saying ‘kill her’, ‘kill her’, and he decided to oblige,” the statement read.

Police arrest 104 suspects during Sallah celebration in Kano

The Nigeria Police Force, Kano state Command arrested 104 suspects with dangerous weapons during the just concluded Sallah celebration in different locations across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Usaini Gumel made this known.

According to him, the suspects were arrested with dangerous weapons of various descriptions during the festive period.

He said the command was committed to deal with all miscreants and their sponsors hellbent on taking advantage of festive periods to derail the existing peaceful atmosphere in the state.

He explained that adequate security measures had been put in place to guarantee a peaceful atmosphere in and outside the metropolis.

“We have put in place a sensitive security network that would pave way for the arrest and prosecution of any person or group of people tampering with the peaceful nature the state was known for.” He explained.

The Commissioner said that already the command had increased surveillance and patrols in some identified areas where youths tended to exploit the show to promote nefarious activities.

He explained the command’s intelligence units had also increased vigilance for collecting and putting into action relevant information to pre-empt likely emerging security threats in all parts of the state.

“We are making arrangements to prosecute 104 suspects  arrested before a competent court of law,” he added.

Mohammed Mustapha: Ekiti State Police Command denies death in detention allegations

The Ekiti State Police Command, through spokesperson SP Adeshola Olubode, refuted claims on April 12, 2022, regarding the alleged death of Mohammed Mustapha, a 28-year-old suspected cultist, in a detention facility.

According to the police statement, Mustapha was apprehended around Ado Ekiti, Ikare road, amidst escalating cult clashes in April. During interrogation, Mustapha purportedly confessed to being a member of the outlawed Buccaneer cult.

It was reported that he later died at the Ekiti State Hospital in Ado Ekiti after exhibiting violent behavior, including attacking and biting other detainees.

The statement highlighted the prevalence of cult clashes in Ekiti Ikare and mentioned efforts by the police to address the issue.

Additionally, before the arrest of Mohammed one of the teachers in Ado Ekiti Government college, Miss Famisin Eunice Tobi already came to report. The statement also referenced threats made.
