The Osun State Police Command has intensified its campaign against cultism with the arrest of six suspected members of a cult group in Osogbo.

The arrests followed an intelligence-led raid on criminal hideouts and identified black spots by operatives of the Osogbo Area Command on October 8, 2026.

The command disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, who said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to tackle cultism, drug-related offences, and other criminal activities in the state.

The suspects are Atilola Idris, 22; Shobowale Abeeb, 31; Jimoh Nasiru, 32; Tajudeen Jamiu, 26; Okanlawon Tajudeen, 27; and Abolubode Toheeb, 18.

According to the statement, “the operatives of the Osun State Police Command, through an intelligence-led raid operation of criminal hideouts, have arrested the above-mentioned suspects.”

“The suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Osogbo Area Command at various locations, vulnerable areas, and black spots in Osogbo on 8/10/2026.”

“One of the suspects, Tajudeen Okanlawon, confessed that he was initiated into the Aye confraternity cult group in 2023 by the late Lekan Lexy.”

“He stated that Lekan Lexy was killed by rival cultists during the build-up to the just-concluded gubernatorial election.”

“The suspects have been charged to court accordingly, while the command continues to intensify intelligence gathering and tactical operations to identify, apprehend, and prosecute other individuals involved in cultism, drug-related offences, and other criminal activities across the state,” he said.
