Police arrest 15 year old, five others over illicit drug sales

The Delta State Police Command has arrested six persons, including a 15-year-old girl, for their alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of illicit drugs in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Department of Operations during a raid on a shop allegedly used for drug peddling along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, Agbor.

The command disclosed this on Thursday in a statement issued by its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

According to the statement, the operation followed credible intelligence gathered by operatives during routine patrol in the area.

Those arrested were identified as Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; and Osomuri Emmanuel, 31, alongside a 15-year-old female juvenile whose identity was withheld.

Police stated that a subsequent search of a vehicle linked to the suspects led to the recovery of quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol, and other suspected illicit substances.

The suspects and the recovered exhibits are currently in custody as investigations continue.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, warned against the sale and distribution of narcotics, emphasizing that the command will continue to dismantle drug networks across the state.

Erale noted that the proliferation of illicit drugs fuels violent crime and other forms of criminality, and he directed operatives to intensify intelligence-led enforcement against drug dealers.

He stressed that the state will not become a safe haven for the illicit drug trade or any other criminal enterprise.
