Police arrest 146 suspects in Sagamu

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a total of 146 suspects during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Sagamu, following recent disturbances linked to commercial motorcycle operators and other suspected criminal elements.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojaguni issued a strong warning against unlawful assembly and disruption of public peace, stating that the Command will not tolerate any act capable of threatening security in the state.
Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the Command said the operation, tagged “Operation Keep Sagamu Safe,” was intensified following a protest by some commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders) on April 7, 2026, which led to the blockage of the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu.
According to the Police spokesperson, the initial disturbance escalated when the protesters allegedly moved to the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO), TRACE Office in Sotubo, and later disrupted operations at the Sotubo Health Centre, affecting essential services in the area.
The Command stated that ten principal suspects linked to the incident were arrested, charged to court, and have since provided intelligence that guided further security operations.
In a follow-up raid conducted in the early hours of April 13, 2026, security operatives carried out coordinated operations across identified flashpoints in Sagamu, resulting in the arrest of 146 suspects.
The exercise involved a joint team comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Ogun State Community Security Corps (So-Safe), and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
The police confirmed that all suspects are currently undergoing screening, while those found culpable will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Abeokuta, for further investigation and prosecution.
Reiterating the Command’s stance, the Commissioner of Police warned that acts of violence, obstruction of public infrastructure, or any form of lawlessness would attract strict legal consequences.
He urged residents of Sagamu and environs to remain law-abiding and channel grievances through lawful means, stressing that the police remain fully prepared and strategically positioned to maintain order.
The Command also appreciated the support of the Sagamu Local Government, traditional rulers, and sister security agencies, noting that their cooperation has been instrumental to recent operational successes.
