The Poetry Club of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, is preparing to host an exciting three-day poetry festival from Friday, 12 September to Sunday, 14 September 2025, bringing together poets, students, and literary enthusiasts for a celebration of verse and creativity.
This year’s event promises a lively mix of activities, including open mic sessions, a virtual reading of the club’s latest publication Issue III, a handover ceremony, and thought-provoking discussions on the craft of poetry. The programme is designed to nurture literary talent within the university community while fostering deeper engagement with the art of words.
A major feature of the festival is a dedicated poetry workshop, scheduled during the event, where emerging poets will have the chance to refine their skills under the guidance of three acclaimed voices in contemporary Nigerian poetry. Pamilerin Jacob will examine “What Are Bad Poems?”, offering insight into craft and technique. Adesiyan Pelumi will explore the intersection of “Poetry & Faith”, while Michael Imossan will focus on “Revising and Editing the First Draft”, a crucial step for any writer seeking to polish their work.

Participation in the workshop costs ₦2,000, and interested attendees are required to send proof of payment to the number provided by the organisers.
Speaking about the festival, members of the club have expressed their enthusiasm, noting that the event will provide a platform for creative exchange while reinforcing the role of poetry as a tool for self-expression and cultural dialogue. The combination of live performances, intellectual engagement, and skill-building opportunities reflects the club’s commitment to cultivating a vibrant literary scene on campus.
