Pension assets: 8,408 RSA holders access N39.86bn for mortgage equity in Q1

A total of ₦39.86 billion was disbursed to 8,408 Retirement Savings Account (RSA) holders in the first quarter of 2025 as equity contributions for residential mortgages.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Pension Fund Operators Association of Nigeria (PenOp), Mr Oguche Agudah, confirmed the development in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Lagos.
Agudah recalled that in 2024, 1,390 contributors accessed ₦10.52 billion under the mortgage equity policy. He explained that this reflected a 279 per cent increase in the value of disbursements and a 505 per cent jump in the number of beneficiaries year-on-year.
He added that the Q1 2025 figures also showed a 32 per cent rise in value and an 18 per cent growth in the number of beneficiaries compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, during which 2,491 contributors accessed ₦18 billion.
Speaking on factors behind the surge, Agudah said: “Greater awareness of the policy, improved access through pension fund administrators, and rising demand for affordable housing have all played a role.”
“More Nigerians are realising that their pensions are not only a retirement safety net but also a powerful tool to unlock home ownership today.
“The Contributory Pension Scheme is making a tangible difference, giving people the means to secure homes, build stability, and deepen financial inclusion nationwide,” he added.
