The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has urged youths to take ownership of the political process and prepare themselves for leadership through discipline, education, and service to society.
The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr. Debo Ogundoyin, made this known while delivering his keynote address at the maiden Kwara PDP Youth Summit, held in commemoration of the 63rd birthday of former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, in Ilorin on Friday.
According to him, youths’ participation remains critical to democratic growth and good governance in the country.
He noted that the Nigerian political process needs the active participation of youths, who are the future leaders, and should be steered away from thuggery and violence.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Occasion and Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, represented by Hon. Bam Omisore, described Dr. Bukola Saraki as not only a leader of the PDP in Kwara State but a national leader whose mentorship transcends state boundaries.
He encouraged youths to actively engage in politics, community development, and governance, urging them to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and remain active in the political process.
He cautioned youths against being used negatively by politicians to foment trouble.
Earlier, the Chairman of the PDP Kwara State Chapter, Hon. Issa Adamu Bawa, said the summit was specially organised to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, whom he described as a true leader with a great philosophy and outstanding political achievements.
He explained that the PDP remains a party that consistently provides opportunities for youths and women, encouraging their active participation in politics.
Bawa commended the state youth leadership for successfully organising the summit.
