Political thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) in Osun, on Friday, attacked the convoy of the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Kafayat Oyetola, in Owode Ede area of the State.

Ede is the home town of the Governor-elect, Senator Ademola Adeleke.

The attack is coming barely two weeks after a list of top Government officials allegedly marked for attack by the opposition PDP surfaced on the social media.

Trouble was said to have started when security operatives attached to the First Lady tried to clear the traffic around Owode Ede to allow for easy passage. Unknown to them, some PDP thugs had positioned themselves and began hauling stones and other dangerous items at the convoy, thereby smashing vehicles and injuring some security operatives in the convoy.

An eyewitness also said “I saw the convoy. But I did not know who the occupant was. They blared the siren but the truck refused to give way. The truck driver is not even from Osun. But some boys just came from nowhere and asked him to use the truck to block the road, to prevent the convoy from proceeding and he agreed. Before you knew it, stones began flying from left and right, all directed at the convoy. To me, it looked like a planned work. But the truck driver only lent himself to be used.”

When contacted, an aide of the First Lady,  Iluyomade Oluwatumise confirmed the attack on the convoy. She however said no life was lost in the incident, just as she revealed that some security personnel attached to the convoy sustained various degrees of injuries. She added that all those injured have been taken to the hospital and are receiving medical attention.

A former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

In his resignation letter addressed to the PDP chairman in Mbutu Ward, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of the state, Ihedioha cited a misalignment between his personal beliefs and the current trajectory of the main opposition party.

The former governor expressed his dedication to the advancement of democracy and good governance in the country despite his decision to step away from PDP.

According to Ihedioha, having been a member of the party since its inception in 1998, he has contributed immensely to the growth and evolution of the party.

He voiced concerns over the party’s inability to enact internal reforms, uphold its own regulations, and effectively oppose the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

“Regrettably, in recent times, the party has taken on a path that is at variance with my personal beliefs. Despite my attempt to offer counsel, the party is, sadly, no longer able to carry out internal reforms, enforce its own rules or offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress.’

“It is in the light of the foregoing, that I am compelled to offer my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party effective immediately.

“While the decision was difficult to take, I, however, believe that it is the right one. Despite this resignation, I will always be available to offer my services towards the deepening of democracy and good governance in Nigeria”, the letter added.
