The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the appointment of Senator Ben Obi as the new Secretary of the National Convention Organising Committee (NCOC) ahead of the party’s 2025 elective national convention.
Obi’s appointment follows the defection of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday. Mbah previously held the position before his exit from the opposition party.
The PDP’s elective national convention is scheduled to hold from November 15 to 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, said the appointment was approved by the NWC on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
Ologunagba described Senator Obi, a former presidential adviser, as a seasoned politician with extensive experience in party administration and national politics.
The NWC also reaffirmed its confidence in the NCOC, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State, expressing optimism that the committee will deliver a successful convention despite recent internal challenges.
The decision comes amid a growing wave of defections from the PDP, including those of Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu, both of whom have recently joined the ruling APC.
