PDP commends Governor Nwifuru, accuses Wike of anti-party activities
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commended the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, for publicly calling out the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over alleged anti-party activities and political blackmail.
In an official statement issued on Thursday by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party described Governor Nwifuru’s remarks as a bold and necessary step toward defending democratic norms and resisting political interference in Ebonyi State.
Governor Nwifuru had previously cautioned Wike against attempts to stoke political crisis in Ebonyi State through misinformation, the unauthorized invocation of the President’s name, and alleged anti-party maneuvers.
Reacting to the development, the PDP stated that Nwifuru’s position reaffirms long-standing concerns regarding Wike’s political conduct, accusing the minister of meddling in affairs completely outside his official jurisdiction.
The party referenced past political tensions involving Wike, recalling claims that he played a role in the exit of his predecessor from the PDP during his tenure as Governor of Rivers State.
The statement also cited similar allegations previously made by the former Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi, who accused Wike of misconduct and questionable wealth accumulation claims the PDP noted have remained unrefuted.
Reaffirming its political identity, the opposition party stressed that it remains completely independent and cannot be aligned with the ruling party under any guise.
“The Peoples Democratic Party, as an opposition party, is not and cannot be in an alliance with the ruling party.”
“We are a principled political party and will continue to insist on best practices in political contests to strengthen democratic consolidation in Nigeria,” the statement read.
The PDP also identified Mr. Eze Alexander as its authentic candidate in the ongoing political contest, insisting that he represents the party purely as an opposition figure and not in alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party concluded by urging members of the public to support Governor Nwifuru and other political leaders who display the courage to speak out against external attempts to instigate political unrest within their respective states.
