Panic broke out early Sunday morning at Aregbe Park in Osun State after suspected thugs reportedly stormed the area and began shooting, beating some party members and causing confusion among commuters.

The incident, which occurred amid the ongoing governorship election activities in the state, forced passengers and other people at the park to flee in different directions as they tried to escape the violence.

Witnesses said the situation became tense within minutes as the sound of gunshots sent fear through the park. Some passengers abandoned their belongings and ran for safety, while others sought refuge in nearby areas.

The commotion also disrupted activities at the transport park, with vehicles and passengers reportedly scattering as people struggled to leave the area.

One eyewitness said, “Everybody was just running. We heard gunshots and saw people being beaten. Nobody knew what was going to happen next.”

Another person at the scene said the incident created serious fear among passengers who were preparing to travel.

The reported attack has raised concerns about the safety of residents and travellers during the election period, particularly as security agencies work to maintain peace across the state.

At the time of filing this report, details surrounding the cause of the confrontation and the identities of those involved were still unclear. Further information on possible casualties or arrests was also not immediately available.

The incident adds to concerns over election-related violence, with residents calling on security agencies to strengthen their presence at major transport parks and other public places.
