Oyetola influencing IGP to target Accord Party leaders — Imole Campaign Council alleges

The Imole Campaign Council has accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, of using the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to target and arrest key leaders and grassroots mobilizers of the Accord Party across Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the campaign council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the organization described the development as an attempt to intimidate political opponents and suppress the electorate ahead of the poll.

Olajengbesi alleged that Oyetola, unnerved by the growing popularity of the Accord Party and the anticipated defeat of his political allies, has been influencing the police hierarchy to issue arbitrary arrest warrants and launch a crackdown on party members.

“Our intelligence confirms that Gboyega Oyetola, embittered by his 2022 loss, is rattled by the growing and unstoppable support for the Accord Party in Osun State, prompting the former Governor to remote-control the Inspector-General of Police to issue arbitrary arrest warrants and unleash a crackdown on leaders of the party,” the statement read.

The campaign council cited the recent arrest of the Osun State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, as part of the alleged intimidation tactics.

Olajengbesi claimed that Adejoorin was subjected to degrading treatment while in police custody on orders linked to political motives.

“The latest in the spate of arrests is that of Hon. Mayowa Adejoorin, a sitting commissioner, who was stripped naked yesterday by the police taking orders from Oyetola.”

“He was ordered to remove his boxers and underwear singlet just to humiliate him. That is a sitting Honourable Commissioner, arrested for committing no offense other than supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke,” the statement read.

Reiterating that no amount of state-sponsored harassment would deter its supporters, the campaign council called on civil society organizations, election observers, the media, and the international community to monitor security developments in Osun State to safeguard the democratic process.

“We state unequivocally that the Accord Party will not be intimidated,” Olajengbesi added. “No amount of state-sponsored harassment, unlawful arrests, or political witch-hunts will deter us,” the statement added.

The group urged members of the Accord Party and the general public in Osun State to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding as the election date approaches.
