Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has commended the appointment and Senate confirmation of Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi as the inaugural Chairman of the South West Development Commission (SWDC), describing him as a man of proven pedigree, capability, and integrity.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, Governor Oyebanji described the development as a significant step forward for the South West, signalling a new phase in the region’s drive for comprehensive development and renewed prosperity.
He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for selecting the Ifaki-Ekiti-born Senator Adetunmbi to lead the newly constituted board, stating that the appointment is a clear call to action to elevate the South West’s development trajectory and strengthen its leadership position among Nigeria’s regions.
The Governor also congratulated another Ekiti indigene, Mr Deji Ajijola, on his confirmation as a board member of the SWDC.
Calling on Senator Adetunmbi to validate the trust placed in him by the President and to serve with distinction, Oyebanji urged him to make Ekiti State proud, as he had done in previous national assignments.
“This new role is yet another opportunity for Senator Adetunmbi to leave a lasting impact in public service,” Oyebanji said. “His record of excellence in both long-term and interim responsibilities gives us the confidence that he will deliver results.”
Describing the newly appointed chairman as a dedicated public servant, the Governor affirmed that Adetunmbi’s wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors positions him well to make an immediate and meaningful impact in his new role.
Oyebanji encouraged the former two-term Senator for Ekiti North Senatorial District to approach his responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a commitment to transformative leadership.
“Senator Adetunmbi brings a combination of quality, expertise, and competence to this new position,” the Governor added. “I am confident he will champion the acceleration of development across the South West, particularly in critical areas such as agriculture, industrial growth, power, water supply, job creation, youth empowerment, and transport infrastructure. His leadership will help solidify the region’s role as a national trailblazer.”
