Otu lauds navy for establishment outpost at Idung

Gov. Bassey Otu of Cross River has commended the navy for establishing a security outpost at Idung Dayspring Island in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.

Otu made the commendation on Thursday while undertaking an on-the-spot assessment of the outpost.

Represented by Maj.-Gen. Okoi Obono, his Senior Special Adviser on Security, Eno described the outpost as strategic to peace, law and order in the area.

“This visit is to assess the facility and the personnel deployed to the area. We are using thid opportunity to appreciate the navy what it has been doing.

“Navy’s sustained presence has restored relative peace and security within the Dayspring general area. This development has promoted legitimate maritime economic activities,” he said.

Otu thanked the navy for their professionalism and resilience, saying, “I urge you to sustain the pressure on criminal elements while remaining worthy ambassadors of the navy”

He further assured them that the state government will continue to support their effort through the provision of critical infrastructure and logistics.

In his remarks, the Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship VICTORY, Commodore Shuaib Ahmed, thank the Akwa Ibom Government for unwavering support to the navy.

He reaffirmed the navy’s commitment to sustaining maritime security operations within the Calabar channel, Dayspring Island, and adjoining creeks.

“This operation will enable us to eliminate militants, sea pirates and other criminal elements along the waterways,” he said.
