Gov. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has forwarded a proposal letter to the state House of Assembly, seeking the approval for the creation of a teaching hospital for the state-owned University of Ilesa.

The ‌‌‍‍‌‍‌letter titled : “Proposal for the conversion of the state General Hospital Ilesa to the University of Ilesa Teaching Hospital” was read at the plenary session by the Assembly’s Speaker, Mr Adewale Egbedun, on Tuesday.

Egbedun quoted the governor as saying that the decision is part of his administration’s commitment to strengthen medical education, improve health care delivery and ensure that UniIlesa obtains full accreditation for its college of health sciences.

He said that the ministry of health and education have jointly prepared all relevant documentation regarding staffing, facilities and transitional requirements which were attached to the proposal for the lawmakers’ consideration.

Thereafter, the assembly deliberated on the proposal which was renamed “University of Ilesa Teaching Hospital Establishment Bill 2026” and passed it for the first reading.

Also, the Osun State University Establishment Amendment No.1 Bill 2026 was re-passed after the House Committee of the Whole sat, and a new clause was added to the Bill.

The bill was earlier passed in September and forwarded to the governor for his assent but was returned for amendment, due to the clause omission.

A private member bill, “Osun State House of Assembly Service Commission Consolidation and Harmonisation Bill 2026, sponsored by the Chief Whip, Mr Olawale Akerele, was also presented before the house.

The assembly then adjourned sitting until Wednesday, Oct. 4.
