The Ogun State Government has distanced itself from rumours alleging that the Ifa oracle has selected Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye as the next Awujale of Ijebuland, stating that it has neither endorsed nor supported any such claim.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ogun State, the State government described the reports circulating in some quarters as false and misleading.
The State government further clarified that the selection and installation of the Awujale of Ijebuland are governed strictly by laid down laws, established procedures, and recognised traditional customs.
It stressed that it has not adopted or approved any candidate through an oracle or any informal process.
According to the statement, “Any suggestion that the Government has endorsed a candidate through an oracle or any unofficial means is untrue and should be disregarded by members of the public.”
The government further disclosed that the process for filling the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland has been temporarily suspended following complaints and petitions received regarding the selection procedure.
It explained that the decision to halt the process was taken to allow for a thorough review and to ensure that all steps taken are transparent, lawful, and acceptable to all stakeholders.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to upholding peace, order, and due process, as well as protecting the integrity of traditional institutions across Ogun State.
Residents were advised to rely solely on official communications from the government and to refrain from spreading unverified information capable of causing tension or misunderstanding within the state.
