The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has passed a vote of no confidence in its Chairman, Femi Soluade, suspending him from office pending the outcome of investigations into allegations against him.

The party accused Soluade of allegedly leading armed men to disrupt the governorship declaration of Jimi Lawal held on Saturday at the Intercontinental Hotel, Ibara, in Abeokuta.

In a statement signed on Sunday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olumide Onabajo, the State Executive Committee (SEC) said it deliberated extensively on the allegations at a meeting held on February 15, 2026, at the party secretariat.

“After exhaustive deliberations and careful consideration of the gravity of the issues presented, the State Executive Committee unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in him,” the statement said, adding that the decision was endorsed by local government chairmen and SEC members present at the meeting.

The committee condemned what it described as the disruption of a peaceful gathering at the Intercontinental Hotel, where Lawal was publicly declaring his governorship aspiration.

“Such conduct, if established after due investigation, is not only unbecoming of a party leader but also constitutes a serious breach of party discipline and a threat to public peace and safety,” the statement read.

The party announced the immediate suspension of Soluade as state chairman in line with its constitution and appointed the deputy chairman, Prince Adedeji Abiodun, as acting state chairman pending the conclusion of investigations and further decisions by the leadership.

It also constituted a disciplinary committee to probe the allegations, including the events at the hotel, and directed it to submit its findings and recommendations to the SEC within 14 days.

The ADC said the action was taken in the best interest of the party to preserve internal democracy, accountability, discipline and unity, assuring members that due process, fairness and justice would guide the proceedings.

“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding and committed to the ideals of our party during this period. Further updates will be communicated as developments unfold,” the statement added.

However, when contacted, Soluade dismissed the suspension, describing the action as a joke.
